Tessy grew up in her grandmother’s kitchen learning the magic of baking from a young age. Her Russian-born grandma, her Abue, had a natural talent for cooking and baking. Tessy being a numbers person, and without relying on the instinct to “add a little bit of this, and another little bit of that,” weighed every ingredient that her Abue used, to have and be able to recreate those delicacies.
Years later, in 1986, Tessy decided to open a bakery together with her best friend Raquel. There couldn’t be a better tribute to her Abue than this. Long before La Cevichería, La Empanadería emerged in La Condesa and Roma, the pastry shop was called La Pastelería, and that was what it was: THE Pastelería.
Thus, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to enjoy desserts originally from Mexico, and infused with the traditional European Jewish flavors.
La Pastelería in Mexico City today becomes La Pastelería en MX, under the direction of the incomparable Silvia.
